Both podcast hosts took aim at the league on Tuesday after tweeting: “Trans women are women. Trans men are men. Non-binary identity is real.” The Professional Hockey League seems to be the latest of the major sports leagues to wake up, though its fan base almost certainly disagrees.

The league sent out the letter in support of an event dubbed the Team Trans Draft Tournament, which took place over the weekend in Middleton, Wisconsin, and included only trans and non-binary players.
“The NHL is proud to support the Team Trans Draft tournament this past weekend in Middleton, Wisconsin,” read another tweet from the NHL. “This was the first tournament to consist entirely of transgender, non-binary players, and about 80 people participated in it! #HockeyIsForEveryone #NHLPride.”
Shapiro marveled at the league’s desperation to prove just how touched he was.
Shapiro wrote, “It’s astonishing to watch sports leagues that rely on extraordinary performances by biological men (plus disproportionately male viewership audiences) parrot anti-biological idiot trash into the vigilant clique.”

The NHL drew more derision and memes on Twitter before turning off the responses.
