Eric Gilbert tops H-Back; 4 of the 10 best quarterback players from SEC

The NFL Draft is flexible in the ongoing assessment of college players, changing from one week and from one pair of subjective views to the next.

ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Keeper Jr. updated the player ratings Thursday, and there were plenty of Georgia players near the top.

Defensive Intervention Galen Carter, whose ability to play in the afternoon game with Kent State is questionable, is the No. 3 behind Alabama LB Will Anderson and Ohio State QBCJ Stroud.

“Carter has only had four tackles in three games (48 shots) so far this season,” Kepper said. “NFL teams are going to bet on his roof.”

Kelly Ringo came in 20th overall, Kelly Ringo came in 20th, and Kiper ranked high.

Keeper said in ESPN-Plus paysite article. “He has all the tools to be in the top 10, but he needs to be more consistent this season and not show just a few flashes of brilliance.”

Kiper has cracked the top players in every position, and the SEC has had its share of top-10 quarterbacks.

However, Stetson Bennett was not among them.

Kentucky’s Will Levis was the No. 4 Kiper and 2nd QB player, while Alabama Cup winner Heisman Bryce Young was 6th overall and 3rd among Kiper QBs.

Even Anthony Richardson, who has yet to throw a TD pass this season, was 15th overall and 4th among the Kiper players.

“This is it resident Ranking is all about potential because Richardson has a lot of talent,” Kipper Jr. wrote. “I’m not giving up on him.”

Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker, the SEC QB rating leader last season, was Keeper’s No. 8 quarterback.

Georgia had no top 10 appearances in Kiper in that position, and the Bulldogs had no receivers in the Top 10 in the draft milestone.

Kenny McIntosh was not asked to carry the football much between tackles but was heavily relied upon as an off-field receiver in his first two matches.

Kendall Melton carried the load to the ground, but Milton doesn’t seem to be at his best yet after losing two fights in fall practice with a hamstring pull.

Eric Gilbert, who has not traveled to South Carolina and is in question for Kent State, is the No. 1 Fulleback/H-Back seed on the board.

Coach Kirby Smart made it clear that he is doing his best to help Gilbert adapt to the intense Georgian football culture, which demands great energy and a sense of urgency at every turn.

Darnell Washington is the number 8 tight end of each Kiper, while Broderick Jones is the number 4 striker and Sedrick Van Pran is the number 2 goalkeeper.

Defensively, Carter had ranked Carter as the No. 1 defensive tackle, Nolan Smith No. 5 at the outside linebacker, Ringo the No. 3 corner and Christopher Smith No. 7 as safe.

Jack Bodelsny’s kicker came in at number 10 on the kickers/punters list.
