Key prospects among junior runners who reach statistical thresholds in 2022

With seasons wrapping up in Major League Baseball, the annual out-of-season review stage is in sight. This gives us an opportunity to look at the season as a whole and identify the players who have reached important milestones. While not all milestones guarantee success at the major league level, there is strong historical evidence linking some of the major minor league seasons to many of the league’s stars today.

We’ll examine three different thresholds related to hit average, base percentage, home run and plagiarized bases. These numbers will be used to identify experienced offensive players who impact the game in a variety of ways as a hitter. Each group is discussed in a historical context as well as players who have achieved remarkable feats when their age and level of competition are taken into account.

.300 hit rate, 15 hits, 15 stolen bases

Total number of threshold seasons since 2012: 71 singles .300, 15 hours, 15 seasons SB

Players who have reached the 2022 threshold: Eli de la Cruz, SS, Reds; Edouard Julien, 2B, Twins; Pete Crowe Armstrong, cubs; Jordan Walker 3B/OF, Cardinals; Faun Brown, giants; Jordan Lawlar, S.; Corbin Carroll, OF, D-backs; Wynton Bernard, Rockies; Esteury Ruiz, OF, Brewers; Miguel Vargas, 3B, Dodgers

The jump in players reaching a 300 batting average, 15 home points, and 15 stolen base threshold was significant after the canceled 2020 season. Eleven players reached the 0.300/15/15 threshold in 2021, while another 10 accomplished the feat in 2022. This came after only eight players combined did so in 2018 and 2019. The last time they reached 10 or more players That limit in one season prior to 2021 was the 2012 season, when 13 players hit 0.300 with 15 home points and 15 stolen bases.

The 2022 group looks like the strongest of any class with six of the top 100 teams (Corbin Carroll, Jordan Walker, Jordan Lawlar, Elle de la Cruz, Miguel Vargas, Pete Crowe-Armstrong) among the group’s 10. There were three standout players in Esteury Ruiz of the Brewers, Vaun Brown of The Giants and Edouard Julien of the Twins. Wynton Bernard is the only player above 24 to hit the minimum this season, making his league debut this summer at the age of 31.

Since 2012, 69 potential clients have reached this special threshold in one season. Of that group, eight earned 10 or more World War II fighters, including Mookie Betts, Kris Bryant, George Springer, Ronald Acuña Jr. and Kyle Tucker and Joc Pederson. Springer and Pederson have both accomplished this feat twice during their minor league careers.

Only five players have scored 0.300/15/15 in their 19-year season since 2012. This group includes Allen Hanson in 2012, Ronald Acuna Jr. in 2017, Zach Fenn and Luis Matos in 2021 and Jordan Lawlar in 2022. Of these, only five Lawlar and Acuña made it to A level above Low-A, with Acuña rising to Triple-A by the end of the year and Lawlar reaching Double-A this season – an important historic achievement for Lawlar in his first full professional season.

The success rate in the major leagues is fairly high among the players that have made it this far, with 44 of the 47 players reaching 0.300/15/15 between 2012 and 2019 and seeing Major League service time. Of those 44 players, 27 have had a positive World War II career so far.

Jordan Walker: The Cardinals 2022 is the best minor league player

Jordan Walker completed a solid 20-year season in Double-A, but his most significant development came late in the season when the third base officer tried to deal his hand in a new position.

.400 base percentage, 15 home runs, 15 stolen bases

Total number of threshold seasons since 2012: 33 Individual .400, 15 Hours, 15 Seasons SB

Players who have reached the 2022 threshold: Edouard Julien, 2B, Twins; Faun Brown, giants; Jordan Lawlar, S.; Corbin Carroll, OF, D-backs; Esteury Ruiz, OF, Brewers; Miguel Vargas, 3b, Dodgers; Will Benson, The Guardians; Adael Amador, SS, Rockies; Colton Kauser, Orioles; Gunnar Henderson, SS, Orioles

In 2022, a whopping 10 players produced 0.400 on a percentage basis with 15 home games and 15 bases stolen, for a total of the same number that did so between 2016 and 2021.

Among this group, Edward Julian of the Twins was particularly notable as he is the only player since Roger Horn in 1996 and 1997 to produce .400/15/15 consecutive seasons in the minor leagues. Even more impressively, Julian reached this threshold in his seasons 22-23, while Horn did so at age 26 and -27.

Of the players who achieved a .400/15/15 season between 2012 and 2019, all but two have appeared in the major tournaments.

Of the remaining 17 players, 14 have had a positive career in War, and seven of those players have made 10 or more players. Among the thresholds listed in this article, the .400/15/15 class had the most personnel with a career wartime of 25 or higher.
