Laine can score 50 goals with Blue Jackets this season

The Strikers skated the same line during the first day of Blue Jackets training camp on Thursday, with Laine on the right and Gaudreau on the left and Bon Jenner in the middle.

In theory, the formula is simple: Laine’s elite shooter plus Gaudreau’s elite playmaker equals a lot of goals.

“Obviously, we have to see,” Defensman Zach Ferensky He said. “Chemistry is a weird thing, isn’t it? But if they can build their chemistry so early in the season, I have no doubts. [Laine] It could touch 50 this year.”

Fifty would be a feat.

Four players reached the 50-goal mark in the National Hockey League last season: Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews (60), Edmonton Oilers Center Leon Drystel (55), New York Rangers striker Chris Crieder (52) The Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin (50).

Laine’s highest NHL goal level is 44, set in 2017-18 with the Winnipeg Jets.

Columbus scored a goal in one season, which is 41 goals scored by Rick Nash in 2003-04 and tied with it Cam Atkinson in 2018-19.

Can Laine hit 41, 44 or more?

Lin said he doesn’t think about any numbers, these milestones mean nothing to him, and his only goal is to be a better player than he was last season.

But he also said this with his trademark dry rendition: “Yeah, it would be fun to hit those marks. I don’t just want to score 40. You know, I was there, and I did it. I obviously want to hit a high, and you always have to You kind of measure yourself, how good you can be.”

Lynn wasn’t necessarily at his best in Columbus.

2nd pick of the 2016 NHL Draft behind Matthews, Laine scored 36 goals in 2016-17 and finished second to Matthews in the Calder Cup, which goes to the NHL Rookie of the Year as voted by the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

After his second season scoring 44 goals, he scored 30 goals in 2018-19 and 28 goals in 2019-20. He scored two goals in one game for the Jets in 2020-21, then moved to the Blue Jackets on January 23, 2021.

He has scored 36 goals in 101 games since then, including 26 goals in 56 games last season.

But Gaudreau could give Laine something he didn’t have. Gaudreau tied for second in the NHL with 115 points (40 goals, 75 assists) last season with Calgary Flames and signed a seven-year contract worth $68.25 million ($9.75 million annual average) as an unrestricted free agent on July 13.

“I think he’s probably the best offensive player I’ve ever had the chance to play with, without insulting anyone I’ve played with,” said Lynn. “…I hope my best comes out, I’m clear [going to] I try to do my best to make it work and do what I can on the ice. Obviously, I think we can benefit from each other.”

Lane signed his own four-year $34.8 million contract as a restricted free agent on July 22, giving him peace of mind.

He said, “Now I hope I can relax, not in a bad way, but just play more relaxed and at the same time work as hard as I ever worked and deal with it that way and I hope I get more freedom. There and I don’t have to worry about these things.” “.

Lynn said he wants to have it more off-season. He looks slimmer, although this might be his new short haircut.

“I have [gotten] Lynn said, “Many tweets over the years to my hair, so I decided to cut it, and we’ll go with this one. It’s more aerodynamic, so I hope to be faster there.”

Seriously, though.

“I hope to be thinner,” Lynn said. “I hope it’s not just poetry.”

Asked if he was at his best in his life, the 24-year-old said, “I’ll say so.”

The Blue Jackets team noted, right down to Hockey Operations Chief John Davidson, who said, “It looks like he’s excited about making a statement.”

Werenski said Laine dominates casual skates.

“I’ve never seen Patty look like this before,” Wernsky said. “He’s had a good summer. He scores goals with every shot. He shoots with confidence. He plays with confidence. I think if you throw Johnny in there with him, [Gaudreau] The disc can get as much as the puck of other players. I can see [Laine] Record 50, like, no problems.”

Casual skates are one thing. NHL games are another.

But there is a lot of potential even in the force and on the power game. Lin said the Blue Jackets are already talking about who will play in the place of strength, and coaches are giving players a lot of responsibility and freedom to lead themselves.

“clearly, [Laine is] “He’s a really smart player,” Goudreau said. “He can see the ice really, really well, and his shot is off the charts. I kind of see myself as a first pass guy, so hopefully I’ll find him somewhere in the hole or in the area and he’ll probably go in if he has a second or two to shoot.”

That is the plan. Now it is up to them to make it happen.

“On paper, you might think it should work, and obviously I hope so, too,” Lin said. “But as I’ve always said, good players always find a way to make it work, and I still consider myself a perfect fit, so I’m sure we can find a way to make it work.”
