We kicked off our Major League Baseball weekend with a full slate of 15 games Friday night. The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees continue their 4-game streak, with the first pitch of the showdown shown at 7:05 PM ET on Apple TV+. There’s another game on Apple TV+ in which the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers wrap up the schedule at 10:10 p.m. ET. In the Eastern National League battle between one select team and one hopeful playoff team, the Atlanta Braves face the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:05 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
In this game, we will make two plays on the money line and one favorite on the running line. Let’s divide each of the three legs one by one.
Chicago Cubs ML over Pittsburgh Pirates (-110)
There is no real ace on the hill for any of the NL Central team today; There is also no real depth to any of the lineup. Therefore, it is not surprising that the prices for this competition are relatively equal. Cubs should be able to take advantage of a Pirates team that just gave up a bunch of kicks to the Yankees in back-to-back matches. The Cubs are clearly not Yankees, but the Pittsburgh fold is already the worst in the league and fatigue is likely to catch up with the recovery. Chicago is also undervalued since there is a novice player starting this game. However, Javier the Lion proved that he was not directly frightened by the bright light from the jump. His MLB debut was a win over the Cardinals’ strong lineup.
He even followed that up by holding the Blue Jays without goals and also holding the Mets for only one round in 6.0 innings 2 started since. Meanwhile, Pirates player Bryce Wilson has allowed 11 runs in his three starts this month and Pittsburgh has lost 4 of his last 5 starts.

Boston Red Sox ML over New York Yankees (+190)
All eyes will be on Aaron Judge this weekend, understandably as he is trying to equalize and surpass Roger Maris’ eventual 61-year home record. However, there is still a game to be played and with that comes the value of the bet. Today’s value in Boston. Rich Hill, 42, is on his third run with the Red Sox. He’s clearly not in his prime, but he was ready to serve in 2022 and the Yankees haven’t seen him after this season. That could be at least a small advantage for the veteran Southerner.
Gerrit Cole takes the hill to New York and hasn’t been his usual dominant self this year. Cole’s 3.41 ERA is basically destroyed by his long ball. If Boston can capitalize on a mistake or two, the cards could be upset.

Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 over St. Louis Cardinals (+120)
The Cardinal is on a dry run and the Dodgers should be the last team the declining football club wants to face. St.Louis has been disqualified in 3 of the last 4 games and the only exception was the pentathlon. Five runs in 4 games you wouldn’t do against any team, needless to say – and especially not against a team that could go down as one of the best teams in baseball history. The Dodgers haven’t deviated, apart from having the best record in baseball, they’ve been playing baseball really well lately with 10-3 in their last 13 games and 16-5 in their last 21 home games. The Dodgers have scored 46 points in the last 11 times as well. Los Angeles should be rolling to finish the MLB schedule on Friday night.
