NBA: Ranking of all the Wizards jerseys this year

The Washington Wizards arguably have the most unique uniform in the NBA, which inevitably means that some jerseys in their diverse wardrobe are better than others.

Please note that this ranking is my personal opinion. If you agree or disagree, feel free to comment; Just keep in mind that these are T-shirts we’re talking about — nothing too serious.

5. Assembly version (basic white uniform)

I understand that the red, white and blue design is a must nowadays for DC teams (except for the captains), but this jersey is the one that is still missing. It seems like the Wizards are only using it as a buffer to ensure that their most interesting and inspiring T-shirts are not used up.

A throwback to the Bullets’ old jerseys, the chest stripe is a cool nod in theory, but seriously misses the mark on this iteration. It appears that part of the shirt has been redacted. The only part of this outfit that I really love is the use of small letters of the “DC” logo hand-scrunched on the shorts.

4. Icon Edition (Primary Red Outfit)

Much of what I said about the League version still applies here, but to a lesser extent.

This is the jersey I think of when I think of The Wizards – a lot of the team’s social media and branding around town features players wearing these basic red, white and blue threads. There’s nothing egregiously wrong with them, but they just feel uninspired and basic. Magicians wear these shirts when they have no reason to dress.

3. City Edition (pink outfit)

Aesthetically, the Wizards’ City Edition uniforms—known as “Cherry blossom” shirts—face a unique problem: they’re great shirts, but only when paired with shorts.

I remember when the cherry blossom shirts were first revealed, I was super into it. I was pretty sure I was going to buy one, so I narrowed down my choice of player to Kyle Kuzma. I didn’t get to see them cut into the shorts until the T-shirts fell off, and I just decided to save my money.

While they may look incongruous when worn alone and almost impossible to match with any outfit, cherry blossom shirts look great on Wizards players in the game. The floral hues around the shorts and up the sides are a stunning visual, and the fading from pink to blue on the shorts ties the entire outfit together.

My favorite detail, however, is the cherry blossom that is the dot on the “i” in the word “Washington.” It’s a nice touch that, when combined with the subtle “h” Washington Monument, does a great job paying homage to Washington, D.C.

2. Issuing the statement (like the Jordanian blue brand)

Sure, the Wizards might lean heavily on their statement-making jerseys, and any opposing fan would be forgiven for thinking these are the Wizards’ staple jerseys. I would argue that they are overused for a good reason.

The mostly navy blue jerseys are a much cleaner look than the Association and Icon striped versions, and the hidden Washington Monument is more visible than on other Wizards jerseys.

My favorite part is the implementation of the “District of Columbia” name. Few teams choose to center their jerseys around something other than the “town team” formula, so wearing the District of Columbia branding is a really cool idea.

1. Classic Edition (white, teal, and bronze shirts)

Before I dig any deeper, I must admit that the fanbase is divided in regards to these uniforms. From what I understand, the older, more established generation of Wizards fans who vividly remember the era these jerseys are based on appear mixed up in the Classic Edition series. Meanwhile, younger fans who have spent most of their lives in the basic red Icon Edition jersey are much more fond of the Classic Edition. Correct me if my review is wrong.

As a Gen Z-er myself, I have to admit that these are my favorite Wizards shirts of all time. The clean white jersey contrasted with the navy blue and gold makes these threads really stand out, but not at all 2003 Dallas Mavericks road type. The gradual twist of the “WIZARDS” text tag is a nice touch, as is the crescent dotted “i” and asymmetric stripes on the side. The small curved “dc” logo on the shorts is also one of my personal favorite details.

Overall, I find the Classic Edition uniforms stylish, elegant, and memorable, and they are my pick for the best Wizards costume set.
