Patrick Reid’s defamation lawsuit saga continues with what may be the most absurd misrepresentation yet.
That really says something for a story that was completely ridiculous from the start, though Reed goes after the Golf Channel and analyst Brundle Chamblee over fraud allegations before Add a group of new partiesall in the service of a legal effort that even in the most charitable interpretation seems highly questionable.
right Now, cane She added The New Yorker Writer Zach Helvand added to his list, Thanks for this article from Oct. Reed’s legal team claims Helfand fabricated an anonymous quote in the article, which is funny because the piece is linked to the tweet it’s referring to: a joke from a spam golf Twitter account, @Deep_Fried_Egg.
The New Yorker’s Patrick Reed added Zach Helfand to his defamation lawsuit.
Reid claims that Helfand, citing an anonymous source, “proves the possibility” that he provided the quote.
This, of course, is nonsense. pic.twitter.com/QpYd4EbNmu

Here’s the original tweet, and then the recap:
LIV needs a public investment fund for sport laundry and its association with Patrick Reed

Incredible sequence here.
Step 1: @tweet sends a tweet
Step 2: Tweet quoted in the New Yorker article
Step 3: A New Yorker article cited in Patrick Reid’s lawsuit, which alleges that the author “made this fake ‘quote’ himself to defame Mr. Reed.”What a world pic.twitter.com/1qJjKZgumc

About the source of the tweet:
You have to be kidding me

Like I always said Patrick Reed is a very good person and golfer and he never did anything wrong.

(Also, if you’re wondering one way or the other: No, deepfriedegg it’s not The New Yorker writer Zach Helvand, whom almost everyone except Reed’s legal team knows).
This whole thing is perfect, right down to Reed Complaint recently reinstated basically works as a chain of self.
Some selection excerpts:
“Mr. Reed has become, not by choice, but by media-driven narrative, a ‘lightning rod’ and thus a frequent target of accusers and others in the media in order to denigrate, disparage and harm LIV, other golfers, and LIV as a whole.”
It is clear that the defendants are not interested in the Saudi Public Investment Fund, Mohammed bin Salman, or any human rights atrocities.
“They are basically trying to associate Mr. Reed and LIV with human rights atrocities in order to destroy their goodwill and reputation and harm them financially in order to eliminate LIV as a competitor on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.
“This is about money and power. [The] Defendants have little interest in highlighting human rights atrocities.”
Again, this is all from the legal team that makes the complaints you refer to The New Yorker The writer made up a quote that linked directly to the article. It really is a thing.
In all seriousness: P-Reed should be punished, and his attorney should be disbarred. Each accused must file a counterclaim for abuse of procedure. * This is absurd.

At a certain point Reid’s suit train will stop (perhaps due to prejudice), but until then, who knows what will happen?
