The World Series may not have ended that way Veles Fans dream after a fairytale playoff run, but as the new year approaches, all eyes are on 2023. The Phillies have already made some points this season with the signings of Trea Turner and Tejuan Walker, but how do they impact the odds of seeing another Red October?
It might not be the worst decision in the world to support the Phillies early. Take a look at Jalen Hurts for example. The young quarterback was 35/1 at the start of the year to win MVP in 2022. Before his shoulder sprain, he was about 1/2 to win the coveted award. A cashout from a bet placed months earlier would have yielded huge returns and there is every chance that being early on the Phillies would yield a similar result.
MLB World Series odds: Where do the Phillies stack up?
MLB World Series odds: 7th favorite Phillies at +1,500
Oddly enough, the Phillies are ranked seventh on the raw odds sheet. The Astros’ price tag doesn’t surprise me Nor the emergence of teams like the Jays and Yankees, who many expected to be the first in the heat of the postseason this year. Instead, little Philadelphia snuck into the back deck and made the most noise. Vegas appears to be pricing this playoff run as a fluke.
Are they a better team than the Yankees or the Blue Jays? Mostly not. And that’s what prices really come down to early on.
It should be noted that as of now, The Phillies have lost key bullpens to free agency. Names like Noah Syndergaard, Corey Knebel, David Robertson, and Kyle Gibson are all left on the open market. While Walker and Matthew Strahm have been signed, the Phils could still use a little more help in the relief department, and with teams like the Mets spending a boatload of cash to improve their roster, it’s easy to see why the Phils should be ignored once again.
There are so many other questions this team has to answer, and until they do, it’s really hard to consider them a major favorite in the World Series.
However, this does not mean that there is no value. This could be a perfect time to “buy a dip” on the Phillies Islands. If they make some big moves this season, that price could drop quickly.
Right now it’s probably better to have a flutter and put 5-10 bucks on that outcome than any kind of big bet. But if you don’t get enough ‘dance alone’, Then I think your mind may have already been made.
