Red Wings Prospect Edvinson hurts; Ovechkin’s capital comes out with a lower body injury

Simon Edvinson is a big part of the future for the Detroit Red Wings. At present, though, Edvinsson is not playing. The defenseman selected sixth overall by the Red Wings in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft was missing as the Grand Rapids Griffins were held up by a 3-2 overtime decision over the Springfield Thunderbird on Saturday at Van Andel Arena.

The rookie defender is out due to an undisclosed injury. However, the disease did not appear to be serious.

“It’s day in and day out with him,” said Grand Rapids coach Ben Simon. “We’ll see what we work with, talk to the coaches and see what we get.” In November, Edvinsson was discharged after contracting COVID-19. He also missed time this season due to food poisoning.

Next Saturday, Grand Rapids is scheduled to play a road game against the Milwaukee Admirals. Prior to his injury, Edvinson had counted two points in his previous three games and four of his past eight. With a 1-13-14 total over 30 games, she’s fallen short of the 2-17-19 numbers he tallied in 44 games last season with Frolunda of the SHL.
