“We trust him,” returning Ezekiel Elliot said Thursday after practice. “We believe in him. This is our brother and we’re not going to turn our back on him. Last week we didn’t really need him. But this week maybe we will.”

Elliott laughed.

In practice, he was adept.

Sure, the coaches said Maher’s coaching that led to the Tampa Bay disaster was smooth sailing. No indications during the week or in pre-game warm-ups indicated that Maher became the first player to miss four extra-point attempts in a single game, regular or postseason, since the league began tracking data in 1932.

“I think he will be back to himself this week as he did here in training, and I trust that guy all the way through. Like I said: no one is more flexible.”
