The FIA refuses to grant Colton Hertha the necessary license to race in Formula 1

The Formula One board said on Friday that IndyCar star Colton Herta will not receive the super license the Americans need to join the F1 grid next season.

“The FIA confirms that an investigation was conducted through the appropriate channels which led to the FIA confirming that driver Colton Herta did not have the required number of points to be awarded the FIA Super Licence,” the FIA said in a statement.

The FIA’s decision was not a surprise.

Red Bull were interested in the 22-year-old from California and are considering giving Herta a seat at AlphaTauri, their junior team. AlphaTauri has already said that Pierre Gasly will return next season and Yuki Tsunoda received a contract extension earlier this week.
