The Ke-Nekt series opens with the world premiere of “Pointillism for Piano Trio”

Composer Sean O’Loughlin’s Finger Lakes Trio “Pointillism for Piano Trio” will premiere at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, at SUNY Oswego’s Sheldon Hall.

The Finger Lakes Trio is composed of violinist Sonya Williams. lead cellist Heidi Hoffmann; and pianist Robert Euler. Auler is also Professor of Music at SUNY Oswego and host of this event, which is part of the Ke-Nekt’ Chamber Music series in the Department of Music.

In addition to this premiere, the trio will also perform other work with O’Loughlin as director. Euler chose him for this event because of their connection through the local area collaborative orchestra led by musician Symphoria: The Central New York Philharmonic.

“I’ve been with him a few times, and got to know him really well during that time period,” Euler said.

O’Loughlin is the lead conductor for both Symphoria and Victoria Symphony. He has received commissions from the Boston Pops Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, and The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, which highlight and showcase his diverse musical abilities.

He has also led performances as a conductor with orchestras and symphonies across the United States. “Amazing arrangements. The orchestra sounds exciting and the audience loves it! Michael Tilson Thomas, the famous music director of the San Francisco Symphony, spoke about O’Loughlin’s work.

O’Loughlin has worked with a variety of artists such as Adele, Penatonix, Jason Mraz, and many more. His music has been published by Excelcia Music, Hal Leonard and Carl Fischer.

Oller said he thinks it’s important for students to attend this event because “Shawn is such a wonderful and very engaging person. I think students and the community alike will really enjoy this presentation.”

In addition to teaching at SUNY Oswego, Euler is a world-renowned artist who has performed on six continents. Auler, who also selected artists and composers for this event, has performed on many different types of events and stages – including Carnegie Hall – throughout his career.

Williams is also a faculty member at SUNY Oswego as an instructor in applied strings. She is currently the Assistant Concert Chair at Symphoria. Williams is also a member of the Symphoria String Quartet, which plays concerts, educational shows and offers master classes in schools as well as in the community.

Hoffman is the lead cellist at Symphria. She also plays part-time with the Grand Park Symphony Orchestra in Chicago. Hoffman currently teaches at Ithaca College, and was previously a faculty member at Cornell University and College Wales. She has been a part of many different bands throughout her career and has traveled to many different countries to play.

“I think it’s amazing for our music students to see real practitioners collaborating with their teachers – it can be so inspiring,” said Euler. “I tell our students that almost all professional musicians were once college students just like them.”

Tickets are free for SUNY students, and cost $15 for the general public; $12 to SUNY Oswego faculty, staff, and alumni; $5 for other students, available via
