United States of America (20 December 2022) /Endurance SPORTSWIRE/—The UTMB® World Series organizers confirmed today that two long-running events based in the United States will be added to the UTMB World Circuit in 2023, totaling an official calendar of 34 events. Celebrating its 20th anniversary on the beautiful trails of Fruita, Colorado, the Desert RATS™ Trail Running Festival™ by UTMB® will welcome runners of all abilities across five distances from April 14-16, while from September 22-24, the Grindstone Trail Running Festival™ by UTMB® It will present one of the toughest challenges on the east coast of the Shenandoah Valley in Staunton, Virginia.

The announcement follows last week’s news that The Canyons Endurance Runs™ by UTMB It has been selected as the UTMB World Series Major in the Americas for 2023. North American racers now have greater opportunities to live the UTMB experience on their home tracks, with six events confirmed across the continent for next year that also include Puerto Vallarta Mexico by UTMB®, Speedgoat™ Mountain Races by UTMB® And the Western States® 100-Mile Endurance Race.

In the second year of the UTMB World Series, contestants will be able to choose from 34 events in total in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania to begin their journey to the UTMB World Series Finals, which are held in UTMB (100M), CCC (100K), and OCC (50K) ) for the UTMB Mont-Blanc races.

A celebration of trail running for all at the Desert RATS Trail Running Festival by UTMB

For two decades, UTMB’s Desert RATS (Trail Running) Festival has brought together the running community for an epic weekend adventure. In 2023, the race is set to be bigger than ever, with the addition of a 62.1-mile (100 km) race to the 30-mile (50 km), 26.2-mile marathon (42 km), and 13.1-mile half marathon ( 21 kilometers) and 6.2 miles (10 km). The event takes place from April 14-16, 2023, and registration is already open here.

Located in the high desert of southwestern Colorado, the trail winds through desert landscapes and striking red rock cliffs. Runners will traverse cliff edges overlooking the Colorado River and venture into the stunning flat-top adventure, where they will be rewarded with stunning views across all categories.

One of the toughest challenges on the East Coast at the Grindstone Trail Running Festival by UTMB

UTMB’s Grindstone Trail Running Festival invites runners to take on the challenge of a high-tech course, where they will take on the heights, hills, peaks, valleys, and all the grit that the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, USA has to offer from September 22-24, 2023. Held during peak fall foliage, the Shenandoah Valley captures all the beauty of the East Coast. As the miles wind through the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest, runners will take in the peaks, valleys, sunrises and sunsets. They will also discover diverse wildlife while climbing the Appalachian Mountains and hiking along the ridge to reach stunning views.

The event offers three unique and adventurous courses for each runner, including a 100-mile, plus 62.1-mile (100-kilometer) run and a 13.1-mile (21 km) half marathon.

UTMB World Series 2022: Major Senior Year

After 25 events this year, the inaugural UTMB World Championships concluded last weekend with the Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko™ from UTMB in Australia. In all, 56,097 track runners around the world participated in a UTMB World Series event in 2022, with 103,315 running Stones awarded in recognition of their efforts as part of the ultimate quest to reach the UTMB World Series Finals at the home of track running, UTMB Montenegro.

In 2023, the UTMB World Championship will be even bigger, welcoming more runners around the world to join the UTMB adventure. Now confirmed for new events in the USA, South America, Africa, Europe and Asia, the series continues its promise to share the best racing experience with as many racers as possible, and to deliver unique events in extraordinary destinations.
